CARL FRAMPTON is set to retire from boxing after a shattering sixth-round KO loss to Jamel Herring.
The Northern Irishman said before his world title shot that he would retire if he lost – and he was outclassed by his American opponent.
The first round showed the challenge Frampton posed out in Dubai, the seven inch reach difference seeing Herring snapping in some long rights.
Frampton started the second well, getting in on the inside and landing some decent cobinations.
But it was the American who finished stronger, landing eye catching shots to take it.
Standing out of range was Frampton’s undoing in the third – when he did get close Herring looked flustered but the Northern Irishman was struggling with the tactics.
Herring’s eye was seeping with blood in the fourth, which gave Frampton some bite as he looked to attack.
As he sat on his corner his corner got to work – but it was not pretty.
But the former US Marine didn’t let it affect him and floored Frampton with a beautiful left in the fifth.
The challenger’s head was clear pretty quick – but he fell further behind on the scorecards.
