Liverpool contacted by West Ham for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

West Ham United have reportedly set their sights on Liverpool outcast Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain as David Moyes plots another shock swoop.

Following the success with Jesse Lingard, West Ham United manager David Moyes has set his sights on another fringe English player in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, if an exclusive report by Anfield Central is to be believed. It suggests that the Hammers have contacted Liverpool over a potential move for the attacker in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Reds are willing to keep Oxlade-Chamberlain for another season but with no guarantees of regular game-time, they will not stop him from leaving Anfield. It essentially means that the future of the former Arsenal attacker is in the hands of the player himself, with West Ham keen on luring him back to London in the promise of offering more first-team action.

It is certainly a tempting offer for Oxlade-Chamberlain as the Englishman has indeed struggled with game-time since joining Liverpool back in 2017. He has been largely considered as a second fiddle for the star-studded midfield and attacking units, with the player yet to feature more than 1,500 minutes of Premier League football in any of his four seasons in Merseyside so far.

Injuries, too, have played their part in stifling Oxlade-Chamberlain’s progress at Liverpool. A devastating ACL injury, in particular, kept him out for almost a year from mid-2018 and to mid-2019.

This season, the 27-year-old has suffered from a knee problem that sidelined him for four months during the first half of the campaign. It has restricted his game-time to just 223 minutes in the Premier League, with the former Arsenal prodigy often making appearances on the Liverpool bench without being utilised by manager Jurgen Klopp.

A move to West Ham, in that regard, should offer Oxlade-Chamberlain an opportunity to potentially revive his career. His combination with Jesse Lingard, in particular, could be an exciting prospect for many fans, with West Ham already in talks with Manchester United over the permanent transfer of the on-loan English international.

Aside from combining with Lingard, Oxlade-Chamberlain can offer a lot of depth in West Ham’s creative unit. It could prove to be useful for David Moyes, who has had to deal with numerous injury problems over the course of the campaign.

As for Liverpool, they are unlikely to be deterred by the departure of Oxlade-Chamberlain, as they are already bracing themselves for a massive overhaul in the pecking unit. The Reds have been recently linked with a move for Sevilla’s Lucas Ocampos, although they are most likely to splash the cash if the likes of Roberto Firmino or Mohamed Salah depart Anfield in the summer.
