Michel: “If I were Sergio Ramos, I would never leave Real Madrid, not even if the Civil Guard arrived”

Michel Gonzalez formed as part of the legendary Quinta del Buitre. As a right sided playmaker, Michel stood out for his technique, vision, and Xabi Alonso-esque passing range. The Managing Madrid crew has raved about Michel on a number of podcast’s covering the club’s history. Having come up through the youth system, Michel spent a total of 20 years at the club from 1976-1996, making over 400 appearances for the first team.

In an interview with Spanish radio station, El Laguero, Michel was asked about the on-going Sergio Ramos renewal saga. “If I were Ramos, I would never leave,” Michel explained. “He knows what Real Madrid means and he knows what the club signifies on a global level. I wouldn’t go even if the Civil Guard arrived. If he stays, it would be much better for both he and Real Madrid.”

With a little over a month remaining in the season, it is in the best interest of the club to finalize any discussions with Ramos on a new deal. Holding up a contract of Sergio Ramos’s size and magnitude could put any future summer deals in the balance. Sergio Ramos has said that he’s “earned the right” to make any decision he wants, but a decision needs to be made sooner or later.
