Referee named for Real Madrid’s match against Liverpool in Champions League Quaterfinals

[ad_1]

UEFA have appointed German referee Felix Brych as the man in charge of the upcoming match between Real Madrid and Liverpool in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Quarterfinals.

Per Realmadrid.com
Felix Brych will referee the Champions League quarter-final between Real Madrid and Liverpool at the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium (Tuesday 9pm CET). The German match official will referee Zinedine Zidane’s side for the eleventh time in the competition. The last time he did so was last season, in the second leg of the last-16 tie against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

He first took charge of a Real Madrid Champions League match in 2009/10, in the side’s 1-1 draw with AC Milan at the San Siro in the group stage. In 2010/11, he refereed the 4-0 win over Tottenham in the quarter-finals, while in 2011/12, in the same round, he officiated the 3-0 win over APOEL. In 2012/13, he refereed the 1-1 draw with Manchester United at home in the last-16; in 2013/14, the 2-0 win in Copenhagen in the group stage; and in 2014/15, the 1-0 win over Atlético in the quarter-finals.

The German referee took charge of the 2016/17 Champions League final, which saw Real Madrid win their 12th trophy against Juventus. A year later, he refereed the last-16 of the 2017/18 Champions League against PSG at the Parc des Princes (1-2). His penultimate game against Real Madrid was in the second leg of the last-16 of the 2018/19 campaign against Ajax at the Santiago Bernabéu.

As you can see, Brych is one of the most experienced referees in Europe and a quality official, so the first leg between Real Madrid and Liverpool will almost certainly be taken care of.

Assuming it will be an intense game, Brych’s experience will be helpful so that the match doesn’t go out of hand with yellow cards and poor decisions.
