UFC pound-for-pound rankings with Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou leading but Conor McGregor OUT of top 10 and NO Khabib

NEWLY-CROWNED UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has gatecrashed SunSport’s pound-for-pound rankings following his spectacular victory over Stipe Miocic.

The Cameroonian-born Frenchman ripped the 265lb belt from Miocic’s clutches last month with a brutal second-round knockout victory at UFC 260.

Ngannou’s stunning victory has seen him enter SunSport’s pound-for-pound list at No.5, while Miocic has dropped to No.7.

Former light-heavyweight king Jon Jones is still at the summit of our rankings, despite being on the sidelines for over a year.

Middleweight champ Israel Adesanya, meanwhile, has dropped to No.4 following his defeat to Jan Blachowicz – who has moved up to No.6

Former simultaneous two-division champion Conor McGregor, the first in the promotion’s history, remains out of SunSport’s top ten.

10: Dustin Poirier

The pride of Lafayette, Louisiana remains at No.10 in our list following his stunning UFC 257 stoppage victory over McGregor in January.

Victory in his rematch with The Notorious was the fan favourite’s fifth over former world champions and solidified his status as the best active lightweight on the planet.

Poirier will rematch his former featherweight rival in the summer, although a date for their trilogy fight has yet to be finalised.

9: Valentina Shevchenko

The queen of the women’s flyweight division has been in imperious form since losing her September 2017 showdown with Amanda Nunes, rattling off six emphatic victories on the bounce.

The Kyrgyzstani has defended her 125lb strap four times during that run, with her most recent defence being her unanimous decision victory over Jennifer Maia last November at UFC 255.

8: Alexander Volkanovski

Australia’s second UFC champion sits at No.8 in our rankings.

Back-to-back wins over fan favourite Max Holloway have extended Alexander Volkanovski’s win streak to staggering 19 victories on the bounce.

Volko, however, will face a tough test to make it an unprecedented 20 wins on the spin when he faces submission specialist Brian Ortega later this year.

7: Stipe Miocic

The recently-dethroned Miocic has dropped two places following his defeat to Ngannou, whom he’ll hope to have a trilogy fight with at some stage.

6: Jan Blachowicz

Poland’s second UFC champion has moved up two spots following his impressive victory over Adesanya last month.

Victory over The Last Stylebender was Blachowicz’s third over former or current world champions and has cemented his status as the best 205-pounder on the planet.

5: Francis Ngannou

The baddest man on the planet comes in at No.5 following his demolition of Miocic.

Ngannou, 34, is now riding an impressive five-fight win streak, in which he’s taken out three former heavyweight champions.

4: Israel Adesanya

The fastest rising star in the UFC has slipped to No.4 following his decision defeat to Blachowicz.

Pound-for-pound king status, however, is still within touching distance for the Nigerian-born Kiwi, who has plenty of mouth-watering match-ups left for him in the middleweight division.

3: Kamaru Usman

The Nigerian Nightmare has been terrorising the 170lb division for the best part of six years, a period in which he’s racked up a whopping 12 wins on the trot.

Africa’s first UFC champion will be back in action on April 24, defending the welterweight throne in a blockbuster rematch with Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 261.

2: Amanda Nunes

The greatest female mixed martial artist of all time comes in at No.2.

Over the last five years, Nunes has laid waste to all those before her – and done so in TWO weight classes.

With the exception of her UFC 215 and UFC 245 rematches with Shevchenko and Germaine de Randamie, the Brazilian has beaten all of her recent opponents with ease.

The Lioness mauled Megan Anderson in her last outing in March, battering the Aussie on the feet before submitting her with a first-round armbar triangle.

1: Jon Jones

With Khabib Nurmagomedov now officially retired, the accolade of being SunSport’s pound-for-pound king goes to Jones.

The former long-reigning light-heavyweight champion has been the most dominant force in the sport for over a decade.

Despite his close fights with Thiago Santos and Dominick Reyes, Jones’ overall body of work makes his placing at the summit of the list a no brainer.

Bones’ hall-of-fame resume could soon boast some big names in the UFC’s heavyweight division if he comes to terms with the promotion over a deal for his long-awaited move to the weight class.
